  • control compliance with the requirements laid down in the laws and regulations regarding management of hazardous and municipal waste, management of packaging waste and activities with chemical substances and mixtures,
  • issue and harmonise permits (licences) in the field of waste management, as well as administer and supervise management system who have obtained exemption from payment of natural resources tax in for goods harmful to the environment (incl. . electrical and electronic equipment), used packaging and disposable tableware and accessories and vehicles of all kinds.

The State environmental Service in co-operation with the Latvian Environmental Protection Fund Administration Administration (LVAFA) has developed criteria for the examination of the collection point/area of sorted waste -

In order for an operator to receive an exemption from the natural resources tax for the point/area of collection and sorting of waste of goods harmful to the environment, it must comply with these criteria.

Environmental Service pursuant to Regulation (EC) No … of the European Parliament and of the Council of 14 June 2006 .1013/2006 on shipments of waste has drawn up the following reports for Article 50(2) in order to ensure the requirements of Regulation 1013/2006 and to implement effective control of transboundary shipments of waste.
